Capoeira- Brazilian fight-dancing

As Brazilian landowners saw many of their slaves dying of “banzo”, or boredom and sadness, they allowed them to play music and to dance twice a month. Out of these ritual practices, the slaves created a martial art, disguising it as a dance. Capoeira, the art of “dance-fight” was born. Today, Capoeira is known for combining strong and fluid movements with dynamic use of space, rhythm, and a spirit of “trickiness” and play.  Working with the musical and movement traditions of the art form, students will learn the basic elements of Capoeira: “ginga” and its variations, attacks and defenses, the aesthetic movements through which the fight was disguised as a dance, and the basic rhythms on Berimbau and drums.  Contact Fua at or 272-7239.

Enjoy a full body yoga stretch in a heated room.  The Barkan Method hot yoga uses a heated (90 degrees) room to warm up the body and facilitate easy stretching and toning.   The class is taught in a flowing sequence (vinyasa) like a slow motion dance.  It is a level one class suited to beginners yet challenging enough for those that love to move.  Come and try this softer version of Hot Yoga.  For more information contact or call 802-999-9963.  $10/drop-in.  Discounted class cards available.

Learn Kizomba-  La Danse de l'Amour
Kizomba is a sensual partner dance originally from Angola, Africa.  It is popular in other countries such as Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Portugal, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea and Brazil.  $10/person.  No experience or partner required.

Music Together
Sundays, 4:00-4:45 pm in Studio B

Music Together®'s curriculum is uniquely designed for babies to five-year olds in a mixed age setting with plenty of adult role models around to show them just how much fun we can all have with music.

Ten weekly, 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability. Two CDs and a song book are included.

Tuesdays, 7:00 - 8:00 am in Studio B

An amazing physical fitness program that is so fun and full of opportunity to learn about living fully in the body, that you kind of forget that you're working out.  Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: base, core and upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing their intensity level.  Nia is low impact, but impeccable with how we condition the body. Vinyasa, meaning flow, incorporates breath with movement.  Each class has a
theme and differs in sequence depending on the focus each day.  Catherine combines her knowledge as a practitioner and an instructor, by giving adjustments and personal instruction as needed.   Her class combines serious practice with a sense of humor, lightheartedness and fun music.  Each student is encouraged to honor and listen to their bodies needs and never feel uncomfortable. She also strongly believes in yoga for every body and encourages beginners to take a chance!  Drop in for just $10/class.

Spanish Musical Kids
Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30 am with Constancia in Studio B
Come and join Constancia Gomez, a native speaker from Argentina, to sing, dance, and share the Latin culture through music.  Learn the basics of Spanish through Latin American songs & games especially designed for children ages 1 to 5.  Parents and kids will learn colors, animals, numbers, body parts and more.  Every musical session is full with traditional Latino songs and lots of fun!  The price is $205 for the first child and $100 for the second child in the same family for 10 classes.  This includes a CD. You can also take a spanish book for each kid each week to read and bring it back - like a library. Some scholarships available. 10 week session starts Wednesday, March 19th.  First class is FREE!
